The device delivers top-tier performance through a 50MP primary lens equipped with a 1-inch sensor and f/1.67 aperture, complemented by a 200MP telephoto periscope camera using a 1/1.4-inch sensor. A novel hardware element stands out: a physical zoom ring that instantly launches the camera app upon twisting.
The Leica-branded and standard versions of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra both integrate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, offering configurations with as much as 16GB LPDDR5X memory and 1TB UFS 4.1 internal storage. A 6.9-inch AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate achieves maximum luminance of 3,500 nits. Beyond the primary and telephoto optics, the setup includes a 50MP wide-angle lens and a 50MP front-facing shooter. Endurance is ensured by a 6,800mAh silicon-carbon power cell compatible with 90W fast charging via cable and 50W wirelessly.
The Leica-specific 17 Ultra incorporates signature aesthetic and functional elements from the camera brand, such as a bicolor body design, a prominent red accent on the facade, grip-enhancing side textures, and monochrome imaging modes drawing from Leica's Monopan 50 emulsion. Xiaomi describes the zoom ring as eliminating cumbersome touchscreen operations while registering movements down to 0.03mm precision. It supports reconfiguration for alternative controls, including exposure adjustments and precise focusing.
This variant exclusively provides a 3:2 frame option dubbed 'Leica Moments,' an integrated security processor for encryption, and support for dual-satellite networks. True to its limited-edition status, the package contains bespoke accessories like a protective lens hood, carrying strap, magnetically attaching cover, and an official branded wipe for maintenance.
A notable drawback involves the cost: while devices aimed at the Chinese audience generally undercut North American equivalents in price, the Leica 17 Ultra launches at CNY 7,999 (equivalent to $1,140), with the base 17 Ultra at CNY 6,999 ($995), each including 16GB RAM and 512GB capacity—levels matching recent elite devices such as the Pixel 10 and Galaxy 25.
