Expect a surge in drone-based grocery transport throughout the United States as Wing, a subsidiary of Alphabet, reveals plans to broaden its collaboration with Walmart during the coming year. The alliance will introduce drone delivery options to 150 additional Walmart sites in areas including Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Miami, along with other cities still pending revelation.

Wing reports that its most frequent 25% of users summon delivery drones as often as three times weekly. In response to rising interest, the companies aim to reach as many as 40 million American consumers and establish a total of 270 delivery hubs by 2027. Their joint effort began in August 2023, starting with initial shipments to residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth region. By June 2025, coverage expanded to 100 further outlets in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Just recently, operations commenced in Atlanta, with Houston set to begin on January 15.

Prior to teaming up with Walmart, Wing entered the American market through a deal with Walgreens to transport health and wellness items starting in April 2022. Afterward, the Alphabet offshoot has formed alliances with DoorDash and Apian, the latter a London-headquartered firm specializing in healthcare supply chain management. In addition to these business ties, Wing is developing an enhanced drone model capable of speeds reaching 65 miles per hour and payloads of up to five pounds, effectively twice the existing limit.
