Reports from Business Insider indicate that Vimeo has undergone significant staff reductions. Employees are sharing on social platforms that the cuts have affected the majority of the workforce, encompassing the full video production group. As a platform dedicated to video hosting, this development raises concerns for its operations.

In a post, Dave Brown, previously Vimeo's vice president for Global Brand and Creative, stated: 'Yesterday, following Vimeo’s recent acquisition by a private equity firm, I learned that I, along with a large portion of the company, was impacted by layoffs.' The reference is to Bending Spoons, which acquired Vimeo for $1.38 billion during the second half of 2025.

The motivations behind Bending Spoons' extensive layoffs remain unclear, though the firm has a track record of acquiring technology firms and implementing sharp cost reductions through workforce trimming. Similar actions occurred at Evernote in 2023 and WeTransfer in 2024. Engadget has contacted Vimeo for details on the precise number of affected employees and will provide updates upon receiving a response.
