Ubisoft's Toronto operation, one of the company's biggest sites and known for contributions to titles like Watch Dogs: Legion and Far Cry 6, has experienced recent staff reductions amid a challenging period of job losses across the French video game firm.

In a comment provided to Mobile Syrup—the outlet that initially covered the cuts—Ubisoft noted that the choice to eliminate these positions was difficult and in no manner diminishes the skills, commitment, or impact of those impacted. The firm emphasized its focus on aiding those employees with generous separation benefits and extensive help in finding new employment.

The Canadian team at Ubisoft Toronto is actively involved in the anticipated remake of Splinter Cell, revealed back in 2021. According to the publisher, the title is progressing as planned, with the studio set to contribute to additional projects moving forward.

These Toronto reductions follow workforce trims at Ubisoft's operations in Sweden, alongside potential cuts of as many as 200 roles at the Paris base. The changes stem from broader company-wide adjustments at the struggling publisher, which recently scrapped a prominent remake of The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Just last week, 1,200 workers at Ubisoft staged a walkout protesting the ongoing dismissals and extensive efforts to reduce expenses.
