Following a demonstration of advanced Gemini capabilities at CES in January, Google has introduced three innovative AI-driven tools for its Google TV service.

One key update allows Google TV to deliver enhanced visual assistance in response to user queries. For instance, inquiring about live sports results will display an updating scoreboard along with viewing options for the match. Similarly, searching for cooking instructions may include relevant video guides alongside the textual information.

For users interested in educational content instead of streaming shows, Google TV now offers in-depth visual explorations of various subjects. Gemini generates tailored, interactive sessions covering areas such as economic developments, scientific concepts, or emerging technologies, enabling users to pose additional questions for further clarification.

This functionality aims to transform idle screen usage into productive interactions. In a lighthearted sense, it seems as though televisions are now encouraging more balanced viewing habits.

To access these explorations, users can select the 'Dive deeper' button during a query or visit the Gemini section on the home screen and choose the 'Learn' feature.

Another addition involves Gemini-enabled summaries for sports, mirroring the news overviews launched by Google the previous year but focused solely on athletics. These provide concise, voice-narrated updates on recent events in preferred leagues, serving as a convenient option over using a mobile device. Current coverage includes the NBA, NCAA basketball, NHL, MLS, and NWSL, accessible via the Gemini tab.

The in-depth explorations and sports summaries are first available on Gemini-compatible hardware in the United States, with expanded device compatibility planned for later in the spring. The enhanced visual assistance begins deployment today in the US and Canada. Additionally, Google intends to extend its Gemini features for Google TV to additional nations in 2026, beginning with Australia, New Zealand, and the UK over the next few months.
