Variety has reported that Jason Momoa is set to take the starring role in the upcoming cinematic version of the Helldivers video game series. Given the absence of a central narrative character in the source material, Momoa will portray an unidentified trooper.

The production has locked in a premiere date of November 10, 2027, offering enthusiasts a distant but exciting milestone. Justin Lin is directing the project, with notable credits including multiple installments of the Fast & Furious series and the science fiction outing Star Trek Beyond.

The screenplay is being crafted by Gary Dauberman, whose portfolio features the scripts for It and It Chapter Two, as well as the Annabelle horror movie and its sequels. Predominantly experienced in horror genres, Dauberman's approach to intense sci-fi action remains to be observed.

For those unfamiliar, the Helldivers series is a cooperative shooting game line drawing significant influence from Starship Troopers. It unfolds in the ultranationalistic dystopian society of Super Earth. The latest entry, Helldivers 2, launched in 2024 and has just become available on Xbox platforms.

Sony Pictures has yet to reveal additional cast members alongside Momoa. Further announcements regarding the ensemble will be shared as they emerge.
