A forthcoming software update for the Google TV platform introduces several enhancements. Among the most notable is the incorporation of YouTube Shorts, with a dedicated row of tailored short videos appearing directly on the homepage.

This development highlights the ongoing expansion of vertical short-form videos from mobile devices to larger displays. Disney+ has followed suit by launching its own vertical video service. The Google announcement specifies that the integration begins with YouTube Shorts, suggesting potential future support for additional services like TikTok and Instagram Reels on compatible Google TV hardware.

Additionally, the platform now supports generative AI capabilities. The Nano Banana AI tool for image creation is accessible, enabling users to inject humorous modifications into photographs for entertainment purposes.

Google is also introducing the Veo video generation feature, which allows creation of videos through text prompts. For instance, it can produce a clip depicting a user's grandfather dancing amid the stars.

Other additions include integrations within applications. The Photos app now incorporates Google Gemini for handling queries via natural language prompts and includes the Google Photos Remix suite for AI-powered editing.

While the YouTube Shorts feature arrives this summer, the remaining updates are currently accessible. Compatibility is limited to devices equipped with Gemini support for most of these functions.
