Publisher Take-Two, which oversees 2K, announced a halt to work on the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Borderlands 4 during its fiscal third-quarter 2026 financial update. The adaptation had been slated for launch on October 3, 2025, shortly following the title's debut on September 12 across competing systems, only to face an open-ended postponement announced on September 23.
Take-Two explained to Variety, 'We reached the tough choice to suspend progress on that edition.' The emphasis remains on supplying high-caliber updates after release, refining performance, and partnering with Nintendo. Upcoming releases like PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 are on track, with enthusiasm for expanding the lineup on the platform ahead.
At the time of the initial postponement, Gearbox Software, the game's creator, indicated that extra refinement and tuning were required for the version, aiming to synchronize it with cross-progression features. During the Q2 financial briefing on November 6, 2025, the Switch 2 edition retained a 'to be announced' status. Its absence from the Q3 discussion, combined with the statement to Variety, signals that any future availability on that hardware is not imminent. The post-launch plan for Borderlands 4 outlines both premium and complimentary narrative expansions along with raid challenges, excluding any notes on further platform expansions.
The scheduled November 19, 2026, debut for Grand Theft Auto VI remains unchanged. Rockstar Games' anticipated major release had first shifted from autumn 2025 to May 2026 in the previous May, followed by another adjustment in November 2025 to the present timeline.
Further postponements remain possible, yet Take-Two expressed assurance in the earnings overview, noting that promotional efforts for the title would commence this summer. Given the series' strong revenue history, prioritizing a flawless launch makes sense. In the presentation, the company revealed that Grand Theft Auto V, launched in 2013, has now reached 225 million copies sold.
