Spotify continues its push toward a comprehensive platform by entering the fitness sector, introducing guided workout sessions along with access to Peloton's on-demand videos. Those with Premium accounts can tap into over 1,400 classes from Peloton directly within the app, whereas users on Free or Premium tiers have the option to explore specially selected playlists categorized under the fitness section.
The company notes that most classes are available in English, though selections in Spanish and German exist as well. Similar to its music and podcast features, Spotify supports seamless transitions across devices for fitness content, allowing a user to begin a video-based exercise routine on a television and later continue with an audio-only format on a mobile device or voice assistant. Additionally, these sessions can be saved for viewing without an internet connection.
Although this move into fitness might seem unexpected for Spotify, executives point out that about 70 percent of Premium members engage in physical activity each month, and workout-related material ranks highly among uses for the Prompted Playlist tool. Over time, Spotify has broadened its scope beyond audio streaming, recently adding capabilities for purchasing printed books and setting up shared conversation groups.
