SpaceX has formed a collaboration with the artificial intelligence firm Cursor, which may result in the acquisition of the startup by the proprietor of the social platform X for $60 billion sometime this year. In an announcement shared on X, the company stated that SpaceXAI and @cursor_ai are collaborating intensively to develop the leading AI system for programming and intellectual tasks.

The agreement provides SpaceX with options to either contribute $10 billion to Cursor, recognized for its AI-assisted coding software, or purchase it outright for $60 billion before the end of the year. Should the takeover proceed, the exact timing for Cursor's integration into Elon Musk's growing network of interconnected businesses remains uncertain. Earlier this year, SpaceX acquired xAI, the entrepreneur's AI venture that also manages X. The aerospace firm is now preparing for a stock market debut this summer, anticipated to be the largest initial public offering ever recorded.

Cursor has been negotiating a $2 billion investment round and is celebrated for its namesake AI coding application, which has gained popularity as a preferred option among software engineers. The platform supports the integration of its proprietary AI models alongside those from prominent providers such as OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, and xAI.

Cursor commented that the alliance with SpaceX will expedite its AI model development initiatives and resolve previous constraints tied to computing resources. The firm noted that it has long sought to expand its training capabilities but faced limitations due to insufficient processing power. Through this arrangement, Cursor's developers plan to utilize xAI's Colossus computing system to significantly enhance the sophistication of their AI for programming applications and additional areas.
