Long-distance journeys could become more engaging for riders with the latest development from the Sony-Honda partnership. The entity, formed by the Japanese giants to develop battery-powered automobiles, has revealed that its upcoming Afeela model will integrate PlayStation Remote Play functionality. Though car-based gaming remains a specialized option, it offers entertainment for stationary drivers and allows travelers to progress in their preferred role-playing adventures en route.

The company detailed that the Afeela can access PlayStation 5 and 4 systems from afar using the vehicle's built-in infotainment screen. Owners might bring along their DualSense gamepad from residence to seamlessly continue sessions upon entering the car. Officials from Sony Honda Mobility noted that a minimum internet speed of 5Mbps is needed for operation, while 15Mbps ensures optimal performance.

This isn't the initial reveal of PlayStation Remote Play in an electric automobile. The partnership had earlier demonstrated the feature on the Afeela 1 prototype, slated for initial customer handovers in 2026, during the CES 2024 event. Broader trends in vehicle gaming include Tesla's earlier inclusion of Steam integration in its Model S and Model X lines, which was subsequently discontinued.
