After a prolonged development period, the dreamlike skateboarding simulation Skate Story is set to launch on December 8. It will join the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog as a day-one addition, offering Sony subscribers complimentary access. Versions for Steam and Nintendo Switch will retail at $20 apiece, while the PS5 edition comes at no extra cost for PS Plus members, with no Xbox release planned at this time.
Skate Story offers a bizarre, David Lynch-inspired perspective on skateboarding gameplay. Users guide a fragile, glass-formed character through tricks aimed at consuming the moon and overcoming a demonic foe. The project was first revealed in 2020, and hands-on time during the previous year left reviewers favorably inclined. Developer Sam Eng, known for the independent shooter Zarvot, leads the creation.
Devolver Digital handles publishing duties, bringing expertise in unconventional mechanics to the table. The studio released the exceptional Cult of the Lamb, featuring rituals like distributing waste to devotees, and the engaging Ball x Pit, which contextualizes the glass demon's ollies as relatively tame.
Curious players can try a Steam demo immediately. Non-subscribers to PlayStation Plus can buy the PS5 version outright.
