Enthusiasts of Bloodborne might be disappointed by news of a declined remake proposal, though the idea isn't entirely dismissed. The studio Bluepoint Games, recently shuttered by Sony and known for handling various PlayStation remasters, proposed updating the iconic Gothic horror role-playing game early in 2025. However, FromSoftware, the original creator, turned it down, as detailed in a Bloomberg article.
According to the Bloomberg piece, Bluepoint floated the Bloodborne remake idea following years of development on a multiplayer game set in the God of War series, which was eventually scrapped. Seeking a follow-up endeavor, refreshing Bloodborne seemed logical given its 2015 debut and Bluepoint's acclaimed 2020 overhaul of Demon's Souls. Bloomberg's insiders indicated FromSoftware opposed the plan without specifying motives. Further investigation by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier highlighted a prior Kinda Funny Games interview with PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida from last year. During that discussion, Yoshida noted that FromSoftware's leader, Hidetaka Miyazaki, expressed interest in remaking Bloodborne but was preoccupied with other work and preferred not to have external teams involved.
Unable to advance the Bloodborne project, Bluepoint reportedly struggled to land a new assignment for over a year, per the Bloomberg account. With the studio now defunct, a remake appears even more distant. Still, it's possible in the future if FromSoftware provides endorsement and significant involvement.
