Rode has introduced the Rodecaster Video S, a more compact and affordable iteration of its versatile all-in-one production unit. While the standard Rodecaster Video caters to experts and setups involved in frequent multi-camera productions, this S model targets solo streamers, video podcasters, and other independent producers with simpler requirements. To achieve a more accessible cost of $500, the design emphasizes removing excess functionalities.
Visual inspection reveals the distinctions immediately, as the device is noticeably more compact than its predecessor. It features reduced numbers of input and scene controls, and uses a plastic casing instead of metal, given its likely stationary use in home setups. HDMI connectivity is scaled back from four inputs and two outputs in the original to three inputs and one output, paired with a single versatile USB-C connection. Additionally, it offers just two headphone jacks and 24GB of built-in storage, forgoing the microSD expansion option from the earlier version.
Pre-orders for the Rodecaster Video S begin today, with deliveries slated for sometime in December, varying by region.
