Project Hail Mary has emerged as a standout hit, pulling in more than $300 million worldwide and establishing itself as Amazon MGM's top performer to date, according to Variety. This milestone follows Amazon's $8.5 billion purchase of MGM back in 2022.

The previous record belonged to Creed III, which brought in $276 million. This success is evaluated based on Amazon MGM's internal achievements alone, without direct comparison to rival studios. Even so, the result stands out, especially since streaming platforms generally emphasize online distribution over cinema outings.

Amazon MGM has shifted its strategy in recent times, with an announcement last April outlining plans for 14 theatrical releases this year. Key upcoming films include Is God Is on May 15, Masters of the Universe on June 5, and Verity on October 2.

Drawing from Andy Weir's 2021 novel—the same author who penned The Martian—the film stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher who regains consciousness on a spaceship, clueless about his background or mission. It has earned strong praise from critics, holding a 95 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
