Perplexity AI has unveiled its Personal Computer software, which launches today exclusively for Mac users. This new offering extends the multi-model coordination features first introduced through Perplexity Computer in late February. Comparable to tools like Claude Cowork and the recently released OpenAI Codex, it provides a set of AI agents designed to interact with users' documents, programs, integrations, and internet resources for managing detailed and ongoing processes.

The company highlights several practical scenarios for Personal Computer, including basic ones right away. Users might, for example, direct it to scan their task inventory or handle the items on it entirely. To illustrate, one could launch the Notes application on a Mac and request support, prompting the system to evaluate the most effective aid method. As it addresses the job, the AI navigates through all associated documents and tools such as Apple Messages. When necessary, it activates various agents to accomplish the goal. Following Anthropic's example with Claude Cowork, the tool can also sort cluttered directories, applying logical labels to items and creating an intuitive overall arrangement.

Instructions for Personal Computer can come via spoken commands, while users can start and oversee activities directly from their mobile devices. Perplexity notes that the program operates files in an isolated secure area, making every step trackable and capable of being rolled back. As the company puts it, "A proxy system performing actions for you must prove valuable and clear. It should operate like a supervised group rather than an unchecked operator holding access to your vital assets."

The Mac version of Personal Computer becomes available immediately, starting with those on the Max subscription tier. Perplexity intends to expand access to the broader user base in the coming days, focusing first on individuals who signed up for the preview waitlist.
