OpenAI has unveiled a charming addition to its Codex application, an AI-driven assistant designed to support programming tasks. The new feature introduces optional animated sidekicks that provide visual updates on the tool's activities without performing any actual code work themselves. These companions appear as a persistent on-screen element, offering insights into ongoing processes, alerts for finished operations, and prompts for user decisions when necessary. This allows programmers to monitor Codex's current workflow directly within their primary software environment.

To activate or remove a companion, individuals can enter the '/pet' command within the Codex interface. The platform includes eight preset options, and users have the ability to create personalized versions using the '/hatch' instruction, such as a whimsical goblin figure. Community members who joined early have shared numerous creations, among them recreations inspired by the classic Microsoft Clippy assistant.
