The Netflix adaptation of Assassin's Creed in live-action format has begun filming and is confirmed to take place in the city of Rome during 64 AD, aligning with earlier speculations.
This new version draws inspiration from the environment featured in the 2010 game Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, but its narrative unfolds more than a millennium prior to that title's timeline. According to a Ubisoft announcement, the series will explore a fresh plot revolving around the conflict between the Templar Order and the Assassin Brotherhood, groups that hold opposing visions for humanity's destiny.
The complete cast lineup has been revealed, including Sandra Guldberg-Kampp from Foundation, Youssef Kerkour of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Mirren Mack in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Louis McCartney from the Broadway show Stranger Things: The First Shadow, all portraying ongoing roles. Earlier disclosures from Netflix highlighted Lola Pettigrew of Trespasses and Toby Wallace from Babyteeth as potential protagonists, alongside various supporting actors.
Roberto Patino, known for Westworld and Sons of Anarchy, and David Wiener, from Halo and The Killing, are handling creation, showrunning, and executive production duties. Shooting is mainly occurring at the renowned Cinecittà Studios in Rome, with no premiere schedule disclosed yet.
This project marks another collaboration between Netflix and Ubisoft in adapting video game material, following the 2023 release of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, which drew from a Far Cry 3 add-on, and the previous year's positively reviewed Splinter Cell: Deathwatch featuring Sam Fisher.
