Rode has released a firmware update for its Wireless Pro and third-generation Wireless Go microphones, introducing the Direct Connect functionality that was previously exclusive to the Wireless Micro model. This update enables users to connect the devices directly to iPhones and iPads through Bluetooth, eliminating the requirement for a separate receiver. The connection process involves using the Rode Capture application.

According to Rode, the Direct Connect capability maintains the high-fidelity audio performance that characterizes both wireless systems. It continues to accommodate dual-transmitter recording in two configurations: merged, which combines the inputs into one stereo channel, and split, which preserves them on distinct channels to facilitate greater flexibility during editing.

By removing the need for a physical receiver when interfacing with iOS devices, this enhancement simplifies workflows for content creators. Updating existing hardware with useful additions like this benefits users financially, reduces electronic waste, and bolsters the manufacturer's standing in the market.
