Meta has begun trials for an upgraded edition of its popular messaging platform, dubbed WhatsApp Plus, featuring a range of exclusive paid options. Discovered initially by WABetaInfo, this subscription-based model for WhatsApp emphasizes aesthetic improvements. The platform's Help Center indicates that members of WhatsApp Plus will enjoy exclusive animated stickers and options to tailor the interface's colors and symbols.
In addition to visual tweaks, subscribers gain the capability to bookmark as many as 20 conversations, assign custom high-end tones to specific contacts, and enhance conversation directories with notifications, sounds, and designs. WABetaInfo notes that additional perks are under consideration for the subscription service, though specific rates remain undisclosed. Available pricing spans from 229 Pakistani Rupees—equivalent to under $1—up to €2.49, approximately $3, per WABetaInfo.
Core WhatsApp capabilities, including text messaging, voice communications, and secure end-to-end protection, stay accessible without charge, as Meta avoids restricting fundamental tools. This WhatsApp Plus rollout comes after Meta's tests of Instagram Plus, which showcased enhanced options such as extended Stories beyond a day and special animated hearts. Instagram Plus pricing details are also pending, and WABetaInfo suggests Meta might provide a 30-day free period for potential WhatsApp Plus adopters.
