Meta first showcased a voice amplification capability for its smart glasses series, dubbed Conversation Focus, at the September Meta Connect event. This function, designed to boost nearby voices, is now being deployed through the firm's most recent software enhancements.
Once activated, the tool aims to improve clarity when conversing in bustling or loud settings. Meta notes that the enhanced audio will have a slightly sharper tone, aiding in separating dialogue from surrounding sounds. Users can activate it using voice prompts like 'hey Meta, start Conversation Focus' or by setting it as a 'tap-and-hold' action.
Additionally, Meta is introducing an AI-based, multimodal option for Spotify integration. Owners can request the glasses to select and play tracks from Spotify that align with their current surroundings via the phrase 'hey Meta, play a song to match this view.' The service will generate a playlist tailored to the user's preferences and the immediate context. For instance, gazing at festive decorations could prompt a holiday-inspired selection, although the exact method for handling vaguer ideas in playlist creation remains unspecified.
These enhancements are now being distributed to Meta Ray-Ban models (including first and second generations) and Oakley Meta HSTN variants. Priority access goes to participants in Meta's beta testing group, with wider rollout occurring progressively.
The latest smart glasses variant from Meta, the Oakley Meta Vanguard sunglasses, is receiving fresh capabilities via the current firmware. The update includes a setting for one-word activations, bypassing the need for the 'hey Meta' prefix. Uttering 'photo' captures an image, while 'video' initiates recording. Meta describes this customizable option as a way for sports enthusiasts to conserve energy during activities like jogging or cycling.
