Lucid Motors is recalling more than 4,000 Gravity SUVs following the identification of a seat belt malfunction. According to a notification to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain second-row seat belt anchors lack proper welding, potentially failing to secure occupants in the event of a crash.

The defect stems from a seat supplier altering its production method without informing or obtaining approval from Lucid. The automaker has since restored the initial specifications, ensuring that vehicles produced after February 14, 2026, remain unaffected by this problem.

Lucid plans to examine all impacted Gravity SUVs and may replace the brackets or entire seats as needed. Notification letters will guide owners on scheduling visits to authorized service locations. No incidents of injury linked to this flaw have been documented.

Although 4,000 units might seem modest compared to larger automakers, it represents almost the entire production of Gravity SUVs since their debut last year, as noted by The Tech Buzz. Lucid's total sales for 2025 reached approximately 15,800 units across its full range of models.

The Gravity SUV has faced prior challenges, including a recall at the close of the previous year for airbag concerns. It has also encountered software glitches, which multiple updates have since resolved. This three-row electric vehicle has a base price of $80,000.

Reports from Autoblog highlight Lucid's ongoing financial strain despite limited returns on investment. Such difficulties would typically threaten other companies, but Lucid benefits from substantial support by its primary investor, the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which has poured billions into the firm. Lucid's Vice President of Communications, Nick Twork, described the nation as a committed long-term ally.
