Prospects for experiencing the distinctive sound of a fully electric Lamborghini appear dim for the foreseeable future. A recent article in The Sunday Times indicates that the company has decided against producing the Lanzador electric vehicle concept, originally slated for launch in 2029.

Lamborghini's chairman and CEO, Stephen Winkelmann, informed The Sunday Times of virtually nonexistent demand among clients for vehicles powered solely by batteries. He disclosed that the choice to discontinue the Lanzador project occurred toward the end of last year, marking the initial official acknowledgment since its unveiling in August 2023. Winkelmann further explained to the publication that present-day electric vehicles find it challenging to foster the particular emotional bond desired, with the absence of engine noise potentially deterring potential buyers.

In its place, Lamborghini intends to introduce a new plug-in hybrid model similar to the Revuelto and Urus. This shift ensures that all vehicles in the brand's portfolio will feature hybrid electric powertrains by 2030, while Winkelmann affirmed the ongoing production of traditional combustion engines for an extended period. Nevertheless, he suggested to The Sunday Times that the firm might revisit a fully electric option down the line, contingent on optimal market conditions.
