iFi, an audio equipment manufacturer, has launched its latest digital-to-analog converter, the GO Link 2, which is more compact and weighs less than the prior version while priced at just $59. This device links to mobile phones or audio sources through a USB-C connection, enhancing the sound quality for users with wired headphones.
The popularity of wireless headphones and online music platforms has made reduced audio fidelity commonplace for everyday listeners. While casual users may overlook this, many services now provide options for superior resolution and uncompressed playback, prompting exploration of upgraded audio methods. To fully utilize these advanced formats, wired headphones are essential, though modern phones typically feature only USB-C ports. The GO Link 2 addresses this by attaching to the USB-C slot, allowing wired headphones to maintain their premium sound output.
Compared to the earlier GO Link, the new model measures eight percent less in size and 29 percent less in weight, coming close to the dimensions of Apple's USB-C adapter for 3.5mm headphone jacks. It incorporates an ESS Sabre DAC chip that boosts dynamic range by 6dB across volume extremes and cuts distortion by as much as 62 percent relative to the predecessor, resulting in sharper audio.
Through the Android-exclusive Nexis application from iFi, owners can perform firmware updates remotely and tweak settings using digital filters. The device offers two filter types—a hybrid option and a linear one—enabling personalization of the audio signature to match individual tastes. The app also allows establishing maximum volume levels during use with the converter.
The original GO Link earned a spot on Engadget's recommendations for top converters compatible with Apple Music's lossless features, and with identical pricing, the GO Link 2 appears poised for similar acclaim. It is currently on sale for $59.
