In response to a legal notice from Disney, Google has started removing AI-produced videos that include Disney figures from its YouTube platform. Publications such as Variety and Deadline report that the tech giant took down numerous clips showing characters like Deadpool, Moana, Mickey Mouse, elements from Star Wars, and additional Disney properties by Friday. This action came shortly after Disney claimed the platform was violating its intellectual property rights extensively. The notice, reviewed by the outlets this week, criticized Google for both allowing such content on YouTube and incorporating protected materials into the training of its AI systems, including Veo and Nano Banana.
Disney has previously targeted other firms for similar issues with AI and copyrights, including actions against Character.AI and lawsuits filed against Hailuo and Midjourney. However, the entertainment giant is not entirely against AI content. On Friday, it revealed a partnership with OpenAI to integrate Disney characters into tools like Sora and ChatGPT, while also planning to feature AI-generated short films created with Sora on Disney+.
