Google is enhancing the functionality of its Gemini AI today through a new rollout that enables the tool to create files straight from user inputs. Users can simply describe their needs, such as requesting a budget template, and then select the export option to save the output in a preferred type.
Available formats encompass PDF, TXT, RTF, and CSV, alongside integrations with Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets. The system also handles creation of Microsoft Word files and Excel sheets, as well as Markdown and LaTeX outputs. LaTeX serves as a specialized system for preparing complex technical papers and publications, widely adopted in academia and research. This addition stands out, especially following OpenAI's launch of Prism, a tool focused on LaTeX-based journal production. Based on an illustrative animation from Google's announcement, the AI can incorporate diagrams via LaTeX, offering value to those in science, technology, engineering, and math fields.
Google describes the enhancement as a way to streamline workflows by bypassing manual copying, pasting, and adjustments, facilitating seamless transfers to other programs. The update extends to every Gemini subscriber, encompassing those on personal Google Workspace plans, across global regions. While other AI platforms like Anthropic's Claude have provided file creation and editing features, such as for Excel files, since the previous fall, this development remains a beneficial upgrade for regular Gemini participants.
