Users no longer face interruptions from mandatory Windows 11 updates during important activities like meetings or gaming sessions. In a recent blog update, Microsoft detailed key enhancements to Windows Update, prominently featuring the capacity to suspend updates for an unlimited duration through successive 35-day periods.
This adjustment aims to grant greater autonomy to users over their update schedules. After initiating a pause for Windows 11 updates, individuals can repeatedly renew the 35-day suspension for as long as desired. While these updates typically focus on security improvements and infrequently involve critical repairs, Microsoft now permits users to choose the optimal timing for installation. As explained by Microsoft's Aria Hanson in the blog, the modifications respond to repeated user input highlighting issues with update interruptions and limited timing flexibility.
In addition to pause extensions, Microsoft guarantees that Windows 11 users retain the choice to power down or reboot their systems without triggering updates. These user-friendly enhancements expand upon a previous update that enables bypassing installations during the initial setup of new Windows devices. Per Microsoft, the newest Windows Update capabilities are presently being distributed to participants in the Windows Insider program, focusing on those in the Dev and Experimental Channels.
