Epic Games has introduced a new option for users to send digital titles bought on its platform. The company revealed that gifting is now available via the Epic Games Store, but only if the recipient possesses an Epic Games account.

A Gift option now appears below the standard Buy Now choice on individual game listings. Selecting it requires signing into your Epic account if necessary, followed by inputting the recipient's Epic account details, choosing from preset message options, and specifying when the gift should be delivered.

According to Epic, should the recipient already possess the game, a full refund will occur automatically. Similarly, if the gift is declined by the recipient, the purchase amount will be returned. However, certain items on the Epic Games Store remain ineligible for gifting, including complimentary titles, subscription services, advance purchase deals, and virtual currency packs.

As a standard offering in digital marketplaces, the absence of gifting on the Epic Games Store was more noteworthy than its recent addition. This delay might stem from the platform's primary emphasis on reducing commission rates compared to competitors like Steam and the Apple App Store.

For instance, back in May, Epic disclosed a policy exempting the initial $1 million in app earnings from any fees, with just a 12% share thereafter. This approach surpasses the developer terms set by both Apple and Valve. Additionally, Epic has consistently provided complimentary games to attract customers and intends to maintain this practice in its upcoming mobile storefront.
