AirTags serve as a vital tool for iPhone owners aiming to monitor items such as keys, wallets, and bags. Although swapping the battery in either AirTag model is straightforward, users might prefer to avoid the hassle near the end of its typical two-year duration. Elevation Lab offers a solution through its battery extension case for the AirTag, currently reduced by 30 percent to just $16.
Normally priced at $23, this represents a solid 30 percent savings. While similar promotions have appeared before, this remains an attractive option.
According to Elevation Lab, the case can prolong the AirTag's battery duration up to a full decade, and it's featured in the ongoing sale.
This accessory stands out as particularly practical for specific scenarios. It proves impractical for slim spots like wallets or key attachments due to its size and lack of a keyring opening. However, for securing an AirTag in luggage or a bag with minimal maintenance over years, it fits the bill well.
By inserting two AA batteries into the case, Elevation Lab claims an extension of the tracker's life to around 10 years, with Energizer Ultimate Lithium cells suggested for optimal performance. In contrast, the AirTag's built-in CR2032 coin battery supports more than a year of operation.
Beyond battery extension, the case enhances durability for the AirTag. It secures with four screws and achieves an IP69 rating for water resistance. Additionally, its design conceals its purpose, potentially deterring thieves from spotting the tracking feature on stolen goods.
Potential drawbacks include reduced audio output since the AirTag sits enclosed, dropping the sound level to roughly two-thirds of its uncovered volume, per Elevation Lab. That said, the newer AirTag generation produces higher sound than the original, which may offset this effect to some extent.
