Prospective Nintendo Switch 2 users should not expect Baldur's Gate 3 to appear on the eShop anytime soon. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke explained that while the developers were keen to adapt the game for the new console, the choice was ultimately out of their hands.
Vincke's ambiguous comment suggests involvement from either Wizards of the Coast, the company holding the rights to the Dungeons & Dragons universe featured in Baldur's Gate 3, or Nintendo itself in blocking the adaptation. Regarding Wizards of the Coast, speculation persists about tensions between the publisher and Larian Studios. Meanwhile, in replying to a separate question in the same AMA, Larian's technical director Bert van Semmertier noted that they had recently launched Divinity: Original Sin 2 for the Switch 2, expressing enthusiasm for the hardware and openness to supporting it with their upcoming Divinity title.
Wizards of the Coast could potentially commission a different developer for a Switch 2 version down the line, though no such plans have surfaced. Larian Studios, for its part, confirmed in a prior year's announcement that it has ceased creating significant patches, DLC, or a follow-up for Baldur's Gate 3.
