Bungie has confirmed that its highly anticipated extraction shooter, Marathon, will launch on March 5, as revealed in today's announcement. The studio accompanied the precise date with a fresh gameplay video and specifics on the upcoming deluxe edition, now open for pre-orders on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Crossplay functionality will be included in every edition, enabling seamless multiplayer sessions with friends across different purchase options.

Bungie's parent, Sony, earlier pledged a March rollout for Marathon without pinpointing the specific day. The date emerged through a Monday morning leak, triggered by Microsoft's premature upload of the pre-order trailer.

Marathon was first targeted for a September 2025 debut, but Bungie shelved it indefinitely last June amid tepid responses to the alpha version and the studio's acknowledgment of incorporating certain duplicated visual elements. Observers note that the title's performance may shape Bungie's trajectory ahead. In November, Sony disclosed that Destiny 2 underperformed against forecasts, prompting a $204 million write-down on the studio's asset value, shortly after vows to exert greater oversight on Bungie's operations.
