Following backlash over the steep $449 cost of the Ayaneo Pocket DMG, the company has announced a new take on the iconic Game Boy designed to attract budget-conscious enthusiasts. The Pocket Vert, their forthcoming vertical handheld, will launch with early access pricing from $269.

Unlike its predecessor, which featured an OLED display and options reaching 16GB RAM alongside 1TB storage, the Pocket Vert adopts a simpler approach. It sports a sturdy CNC-machined metal chassis and a clean, understated aesthetic with smooth, unmarked buttons echoing the style of the Analogue Pocket.

At its core, the device includes a compact 3.5-inch LCD panel offering 1,600 by 1,440 pixel resolution, powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor capable of running titles from up to the PlayStation 2 era and select Nintendo Switch software.

For enhanced compatibility with contemporary titles, a discreet touch surface sits beneath the controls to serve as an improvised analog stick. Additional conveniences encompass a biometric scanner integrated into the power key, plus USB-C connectivity, a 3.5-millimeter audio port, and a microSD expansion slot. The upcoming Indiegogo fundraiser represents the exclusive opportunity to secure the Pocket Vert at the reduced rate prior to its standard $339 listing; a premium Lava Red edition with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is slated for $369 during the early phase and $439 afterward.
