In today's world, it's challenging for children to avoid having a smartphone, yet AT&T aims to provide a balanced option for concerned parents. The telecom provider has introduced the AmiGO Jr. Phone, integrating Samsung components with its proprietary application to deliver a device equipped with embedded safeguards for young users.
Essentially a modified Samsung Galaxy A16, this model serves as a capable entry-level device boasting a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 6.7-inch screen, and consistent battery performance. AT&T has customized the Samsung base to suit family needs by adding capabilities such as real-time GPS monitoring, designated safe areas, and limits on screen usage, all manageable through the AmiGO application. While similar kid-oriented phones from services like Bark and Pinwheel have existed for some time, this marks the debut of such a dedicated offering from a leading wireless operator.
The AmiGO Jr. Phone can now be purchased via AT&T's online store at a rate of $3 per month, requiring a 36-month agreement that includes installment rebates. Customers must still cover standard AT&T service fees, but this arrangement undercuts the full retail cost of $200 for the standard Galaxy A16. To further bolster its family-oriented lineup, which already features a child-specific tablet, AT&T has released the AmiGO Jr. Watch 2 for added protection.
