Although Apple is arriving later than some competitors in the smart glasses sector, the company seems to be preparing thoroughly by evaluating as many as four distinct variants for its anticipated device. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman states that Apple might bring to market one or several of these designs presently in development.

The prototypes under review feature a wide rectangular frame similar to Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a more streamlined rectangular style resembling the eyewear of Apple CEO Tim Cook, a broader oval or round frame, and a more compact oval or circular alternative. Bloomberg adds that Apple is developing multiple color choices, such as black, ocean blue, and light brown.

Currently referred to internally as N50, Apple's smart glasses are set to rival Meta's second-generation Ray-Ban model. The design could set itself apart through vertically positioned oval lenses accented by surrounding illumination, based on the report. In line with Meta's glasses, the product will support photo and video recording, yet it aims for superior compatibility with the iPhone, enabling access to Apple's platform for media editing and distribution, telephone functions, alerts, audio streaming, and voice assistant features, as Gurman describes. The debut might overlap with an upgraded Siri expected in iOS 27. Gurman indicates a possible announcement for the glasses by late 2026 or the start of 2027, with availability later in 2027. Meta's newest iteration, meanwhile, accommodates prescription lenses more effectively and provides enhanced personalization options.
