Apple has previously introduced iPhones in a striking Hermès-inspired orange, and now sources suggest it may adopt a vibrant red reminiscent of Louboutin designs. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reveals that the company is evaluating potential high-end finishes for its upcoming iPhone Pro series. Although details on the next models, possibly the iPhone 18, won't emerge until later in the year, Gurman notes that red is currently under consideration as the primary premium variant for these devices.
In addition to speculation about purple and brown variants, Gurman believes these might simply represent variations of the core red choice. This shift toward a bolder hue marks a change from Apple's traditional selection of subdued colors, potentially building on the popularity of its eye-catching Cosmic Orange, which has driven increased purchases in China. Enthusiasts have nicknamed this shade Hermès orange, turning it into a desirable emblem among Chinese consumers. Introducing red could further expand Apple's market share there, given its cultural association with good fortune.
Apple has experience with red finishes, having produced models in rich crimson tones through its partnership with Product Red; the most recent such devices include the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus. By contrast, for the anticipated foldable iPhone, Gurman indicates that Apple plans to maintain a more conservative approach with standard color options.
