The e-commerce giant revealed plans to expand its same-day prescription shipping to 4,500 additional cities and towns across the US by the close of 2026. Introduced in 2020, Amazon Pharmacy initially provided two-day delivery, and the service has since grown in scope and pace, reaching close to 50% of the American population in 2024.

While the update lacks a full list of the upcoming locations for same-day service, it highlights initial introductions in Idaho and Massachusetts. Historically, eligibility for this rapid delivery hinged on proximity to Amazon's distribution hubs where on-site pharmacies operate. Beyond same-day, the platform provides next-day options and, in select areas, in-person collection at One Medical clinics owned by Amazon.

Although Amazon filed for Amazon Pharmacy branding rights in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia back in 2020, the prescription shipping feature remains confined to the US market. Separately, the firm introduced RxPass in 2023, offering Amazon Prime members unlimited access to more than 50 frequently prescribed drugs for just $5 monthly.

This 2024 update also enabled those enrolled in Medicare to utilize the RxPass program.
