Amazon is deepening its alliance with the artificial intelligence firm Anthropic through significant monetary pledges from each party. The e-commerce giant revealed plans to allocate $5 billion to the startup, potentially followed by another $20 billion contingent on achieving specified targets. This development builds on Amazon's prior $4 billion infusion into Anthropic during 2023 and an additional $4 billion commitment in 2024.
In return, Anthropic has agreed to rely on Amazon's specialized Trainium chips for developing its artificial intelligence systems. Under the new arrangement, the company vows to allocate over $100 billion toward Amazon Web Services infrastructure throughout the next ten years. It will also gain access to as much as 5 gigawatts in existing and upcoming chip resources for model training and operations. Furthermore, the collaboration integrates Anthropic's Claude AI service directly into the Amazon Web Services interface for users, eliminating the requirement for separate login details.
