During its September devices and services announcement, Amazon introduced Alexa Home Theater as an exciting surround sound option for certain Echo models. The company has informed Engadget that the feature is now deploying to users on a broad scale from today.
For some buyers, this positions Echo speakers as a cost-effective introductory option compared to Sonos systems, although a quality soundbar might suit newcomers to home theater setups more effectively. The configuration supports linking as many as five recent Echo Studio or Echo Dot Max units, along with a subwoofer, to a Fire TV Stick 4K or 4K Max; notably, the earlier Echo Studio version does not work with this setup.
According to Amazon, once multiple Echo units are connected in the TV's room and joined to the identical Wi-Fi, the Alexa application guides users through configuration. The system then adjusts the audio output automatically to match the room's acoustics.
Coinciding with Black Friday promotions, the updated Echo Studio and Echo Dot Max are discounted, as are various other Amazon products. The Echo Studio sees a $30 reduction to $190, while the Echo Dot Max is $10 lower at $90.
